Changelog
Everything that shipped, including the parts that were us fixing
something we got wrong.
3.4 — The line
2026-07-28
Current
Escalation is now a first-class object rather than a list on
your profile. It has a size limit of five, it is visible to the
people on it, and being added to somebody's path sends them a
notification, because being quietly made responsible for
someone is not a feature.
Median delivery for an urgent page at deep is now 6.2 seconds,
down from 41. Almost all of that was a queue we did not need.
- Escalation paths, capped at five people
POST /v3/pages in the API
- Urgent pages bypass the digest and arrive alone
3.3 — Currents on a calendar
2026-06-11
Currents now publish to Google and Microsoft calendars as real
busy blocks, so people outside the team stop booking over them.
This was the single most requested thing for four months and it
turned out to be mostly a permissions problem.
Also: any calendar event titled
Dive: deep now starts a
dive. We did not plan this one; a customer was already doing it
with a script and it was better than what we had designed.
- Two-way calendar sync for Currents
- Calendar events can start dives
- CalDAV on Trench
3.2 — Daylight
2026-04-30
The weekly summary, per team, to the whole team. It names what
took depth away, and in the beta the answer was a recurring
meeting in eleven of the first fourteen teams that turned it
on.
We shipped this without per-person figures and got a lot of
mail about it. The about page explains
why that is not changing.
- Weekly Daylight summary on Reef and Trench
GET /v3/daylight
- CSV and JSON export
3.1 — The Shoal at scale
2026-03-05
The Shoal was designed for a room and started falling over at
about eighty people, which we found out from a customer with
three hundred. It now groups by sub-team and stays readable.
A correction, too: 3.0 released held messages in arrival order
with urgent ones mixed in. That was wrong and it is now
urgent-first by default, configurable in
[hold].
- Shoal grouping for teams over 50
- Urgent-first release order, and a setting for it
- Fixed a leak that kept surfaced dives on screen until reload
VivaOcean is a fictional product. This site exists to show a theme,
and every number on it was made up to fill a layout.
