A tambour is the slatted roll-top of a desk. It comes down over everything you left out and keeps it exactly where it was. This one does that for a team's documents.
Tambour does not want to be where you work. It wants to be where the work goes afterward, and to still make sense in four years.
Every tool your team writes in eventually becomes a place your team cannot find anything. The documents are all still there, and they are behind a search box that ranks by recency, in a product that has been redesigned twice since. Tambour takes the finished things out of that and files them: by project, by date, by who signed off, in folders you named.
The format is boring on purpose. Files on a disk, one index, an export that is just a folder. If we disappear, your archive keeps working, which is the only promise an archive can honestly make.
Each one does its job and stops. Nothing here has a roadmap to become a platform.
Drop a document in and it lands in a folder you named, with the project, the date and the person attached to it.
Close a project and Tambour freezes the whole shelf: every file as it stood that day, readable forever, editable never.
Search the text, or narrow by the things you actually remember: which quarter, whose name, what kind of document.
Deleted things go here and stay for a year. An archive that can lose a document is a filing cabinet with a hole in it.
